(D-DE) ICYMI: Senators Team Up to Introduce 'Voice Clone' Bill In a move to create an unprecedented level of technological security, four Senators announced the newest addition to their legislative agenda – a bill that would introduce the use of a ‘voice clone’ in the verification process of online communications. On Thursday, Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) was joined by his Senate colleagues, Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) to introduce a bill requiring companies to securely store all customer data and use a ‘voice clone’ to authenticate communication. The proposed bill requires companies to create an individualized, one-time use, authenticated ‘voice clone’ which can be used to verify customers, including government agents. The Senators believe this will provide an unprecedented level of security for online communications. Senator Coons remarked, “This bill ensures that our personal information is secure and protected against bad actors who may be looking to exploit it… This is an important and necessary step to increase the safety and security of the digital world.” The bill is one of several initiatives being put forth in order to increase security measures for online communications and prevent fraud. The four Senators are optimistic that their colleagues will support their legislative effort, which will soon be presented to the Senate. If passed, this ‘voice clone’ bill would revolutionize the way online communication is secured and authenticated. A safer digital world awaits – if this bill is voted into law. |
