1. “New Scam Employs Voice Cloning to Trick Phone Users: Here’s What You Need to Know” Fraudsters have devised a new way to deceive unsuspecting victims: voice cloning. According to News 12 Connecticut, scammers are now using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to replicate human voices and attempt to fool victims into revealing sensitive information. The technology, which is called KIYC (Knowledge-infused Voice Cloning) has made it even easier for scammers to sound as if they are “real people”. Not only can KIYC duplicate your voice, but it can also mimic regional accents and even imitate specific people. Fortunately, there are ways to protect yourself from these types of scams. The best thing to do is to never give out personal or financial information over the phone. If you receive a call that sounds suspicious, hang up and verify the caller’s identity before providing any information. Additionally, invest in call-blocking and caller ID technology to help identify potential scammers. Lastly, if you receive a call from someone claiming to be from a legitimate company or organization, be sure to ask for their contact information and call them back directly. If their phone number has been cloned, the number you’ll receive back will not be the same as the one you were called from. By doing this, you’ll be able to remain vigilant and protect yourself from becoming a victim of phone scams. |
