Voice Cloning Scam Nets New Jersey Man Arrest A New Jersey man has been arrested on suspicion of voice-cloning in an alleged scam that targeted Houston-area residents. The suspect was identified as James Johnson, 25, of Paterson. He was taken into custody on Wednesday and charged with multiple counts of fraud in connection with the scam. Johnson is accused of using voice-cloning technology to create audio messages that were used to solicit money from victims in the Houston area. The scam involved convincing people to give Johnson access to their banking or credit card information, which he then allegedly used to make purchases from retail stores. The suspect reportedly targeted elderly victims, many of whom were elderly retirees. Authorities believe Johnson used voice-cloning technology to impersonate the victims’ voices and fool them into believing he was a legitimate person associated with their banks. Investigators are now working to determine the extent of the alleged fraud and any potential victims. Johnson is currently being held in the Harris County Jail and is expected to make his first appearance in court Thursday.
