1. Mother Shocked After Scammer Uses Voice Clone of Daughter in Fake Kidnapping A Texas mother was left in shock after she received a call from a scammer who had cloned her daughter’s voice. The call reported a fake kidnapping, leaving the mother terrified for her daughter’s safety. The mother, Maria Cabello, was about to begin her work day when she received the call from a man claiming to have kidnapped her daughter. He demanded money in exchange for her safe return. The mother was horrified when her daughter’s own voice came over the line with the message, “Mom, these bad men have me.” Cabello immediately worried the call was real and frantically tried to contact her daughter. After multiple calls to her daughter's phone went unanswered, Cabello called the police. The police quickly realized the call was a scam and told Cabello that her daughter's voice had likely been cloned by the scammers. Although relieved to learn her daughter was safe, Cabello was still left perplexed as to how the scammers had accessed her daughter’s voice. Unfortunately, Cabello is not alone in her experience as voice cloning technology has become increasingly available, allowing criminals to impersonate victims for their own devious purposes.
